Nintendo 64 piracy through out the world was mostly caused by so-called game copiers like Bung's Doctor V64 or Mr. Backup's Z64, but some countries had actual pirated carts. There was a catch though,
because of the sophisticated and at the time impossible to replicate lockout circuit in official N64 carts, N64 pirate carts were not equipped with a lockout chip. Instead they would require an adapter
which would borrow the lockout chip from an original cart.
Later on adapters with pirated CIC's were released, such as the N64 Multisystem adapter on the right, which most likely is equipped with the only known CIC pirate chip type known to exist, the 'S-A 629'. Later on
a few carts, such as the ISS64 hack 'Ronaldinho Soccer 64' would include the chip.
In some countries the carts were pretty common, but they're generally quite hard to come by and truly an awesome piece of Nintendo 64 history, though I'm sure Nintendo aren't happy about it.
