12 IS BETTER THAN 6 GAME REVIEW
HAND DRAWN SHOOTER

(!) Before reading this review, please note that an eshop code was provided free of charge by the publisher of this game. But no agreements were made that will affect my final verdict of the game.

For the first time in NESWORLD history I have been contacted by a game publisher to do a review. Normally I don't do reviews and especially not of upcoming releases, so at first I ignored the email and then kinda forgot about it, a week later I received another mail asking again and I decided to at least take a look at the trailer for the game, called "12 is better than 6" and accepted the challenge...

You play as a Mexican prisoner who is fighting for his survival and freedom, making an escape from working in a mine to becoming a violent gun slinger.

The game was originally released for the PC some 3 years ago, but March 5, 2019, the game will be available to download from the Nintendo eShop with a price point of $9.99 in the US. Published by Hypertrain Digital and developed by er Ink Stains Games, 12 is better than 6 is a top down shooter with a twist of puzzle gaming. With a "one shot and you're dead" game mechanic you have to timely and carefully plan each attack or move you make. The game is split into small missions and if you're shot you have to start over the mission.

I found myself, that even though trying to plan each move I made, I still ending up being slaughtered one way or another because there was "one more" enemy around the corner that I had not seen, but he had been "activated" because of a gun shot or something else - meaning you end up playing a mission more than one time to refine your strategy.

With that said I did find the control a bit messy, even though the game was fun to play. The sound in the game in incredibly slow, I had the volume almost at max, even in the settings menu, and it still wasn't loud at all.

The game is hand drawn and it actually looks quite nice in all black and white with red blood all over the place when someone has been killed. There is no nice titlescreen, you're pretty much just being thrown into a very dull looking menu. As mentioned earlier, everything is seen from a top-down perspective and to be honest, to me it becomes a little tedious.

So what is there to make of all I've written? is the game worth 10 bucks? well if you like action strategy games then there's definitely something for you here, but the quirky controlls killed it for me. Overall an average expereince.

Oh yeah! if you've wondered what the title of the game is about, like I have, well "12 is better than 6" means "It's better to be judged by 12 (a jury) than to be carried by 6 (to your grave)" according to the press kit. It has nothing to do with 2 six shooters being better than one or anything like that or anything else you tried to resemblance the title to....

The press kit goes on...

To be judged by 12 means that you get to go to court where you’ll be judged by a jury of 12 who will decide your fate.

To be carried by 6 means to be dead. Why? You see, it is common for 6 people to carry a coffin (3 people on each side) to and from the hearse.

Altogether, the phrase "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6" means that a person would rather kill someone and go to jail for it than be killed and have to be buried.

erhmmm yeah! I guess :-)
